The 16-bed Attention Home Provides a non-secure, safe, residential environment where juvenile court judges in Northeast Alabama can place girls 12-thru-18 years of age who are in need of supervision.
The Attention Home's adolescents are considered status offenders, not delinquent offenders. The Attention Home's treatment program, a "diversion program" serving to prevent residents' further involvement with the juvenile justice system, offers a variety of services to assist residents in dealing with emotional and behavioral issues. These services include individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, parent education, and a behavior modification program that focuses on the teaching of social skills, problem-solving skills, and values clarification. A copy of the Attention Home Residents' Manual may be found here.
The Attention Home is a 24 hour facility that is staffed with trained Child Care Workers, who are supported by Counseling and Case Management staff. The home operates an academic program, and provides recreation services, community service projects, a 4-H club and a horticultural therapy program. The Attention Home is adjacent to the Detention Center on McClellan Boulevard.
It is the mission of the Attention Home Program:
- to provide a safe environment wherein the primary, educational, behavioral, medical, and emotional needs of its residents are met;
- to prevent residents' further involvement in the Juvenile Justice System by serving as an effective behavioral modification program, returning to the communities we serve more respectful, responsible, and productive citizens;
- to prevent adolescent abuse and neglect and promote healthier lifestyles among this and future generations by providing parent education and family support.
